Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) is one of the highest-yielding small savings schemes in India, restricted to a girl child under 10.
Eligibility Parent or legal guardian of a girl child aged under 10. One account per girl, up to two girls per family (three in case of twins).
Deposit Minimum ₹250, maximum ₹1.5 lakh per financial year, for 15 years from account opening. Deposits qualify for 80C deduction under the old tax regime.
Maturity Account matures 21 years from opening or on the girl's marriage after 18. Partial withdrawal up to 50% is allowed at 18 for higher education.
Interest Set quarterly by the government. Historically among the highest small-savings rates. Verify current rate before deposit.
Open at any Post Office or authorised bank branch. Not online for new accounts as of writing.
